5 July 2023Cutting of polishing felt for laboratories
5 July 2023Today we’re talking about straw marquetry, and we are presenting the work of Anne-Marie Choain, one of our users.
Straw marquetry is a very old technic that consists in covering various surfaces with straw (everyday objects, furniture, jewelry, framing) to embellish them with a variety of patterns.
Here are a few examples of Anne-Marie’s work.
Cutting material is not always easy, especially when it comes to circular patterns.
The first step is to stick the material onto paper to form straw planks, which, depending on how you cut or assemble them, will give very different patterns that you can glue onto the support of your choice.
For circular cutting, there are several solutions:
- The circular cutter
- The chisel
- The hollow punches
For punch cutting, we offer a complete range of punch and accessories that provide comfort and precision.
Here are a few examples of how Boehm punch sets can be used:
Simply use our patented ergonomic handle to absorb vibrations transmitted to the hand, equipped with a chuck and the needed punch
There are three ways to use our tools:
- With a hammer: The punch is mounted on its chuck. The cutting is carried out by striking with a hammer; the material to be cut is placed on a receiving plate which does not damage the punch.
- With a mallet: the material is positioned on the punch. The cutting is carried out by striking the material around the cutting edge of the hollow punch with a wooden, copper, brass or plastic mallet.
- With a manual press: the mandrel may or may not be fixed to the moving part of the press, and the material to be cut is on a receiving plate that does not damage the punch.

The circular cutter can also be an ally for larger diameters:
Here with cardboard, but also with foam, cork, felt and leather. The stainless steel blade has been specially designed for precise, and high-performance cutting.
